As the temps cool down this rooibos tea latte is our favorite cozy drink to warm up with (or this pumpkin spice latte).

There is just something about sipping a cozy tea on a cool autumn evening or blustery winter day. We are finally getting some cooler weather, so it is now time to pull out my favorite fall recipes.

Rooibos tea is one of my family’s favorites. It’s super easy to make, and can be made in so many different ways.

I love rooibos, because it is a naturally caffeine free herbal tea with a sweet, fruity flavor. I love to pair it with cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, cardamom and a hint of vanilla.

Why you will love this recipe:

Cozy: A warm mug of tea on a cool evening is the epitome of cozy.

Caffeine free: My favorite decaf alternative for the evenings when it is too late to have coffee.

Healthy: Rooibos tea can help support the immune system and is packed with anti-inflammatory properties. A great drink for those who are health conscious.

Ingredients

milk, tea, and honey on a countertop.

Rooibos tea: Loose leaf rooibos tea or rooibos tea bags. You could also swap this for other teas like green tea, black tea, etc.

Milk of choice: I like to use whole milk or half and half. This makes it nice and frothy. Using heavy cream will just turn it into whipped cream. Oat milk is a good plant-based milk choice since it froths up nicely.

Honey or maple syrup. I like to use raw honey. Sugar would also work.

Optional: Spices like nutmeg or pumpkin spice

Rooibos Latte Instructions

Rooibos tea steeping in a mug.

Step 1: Pour water into tea kettle or pot to bring the water to a boil. Add loose leaf rooibos tea to a French press or tea bags to a mug. Pour the hot water over the tea and allow it to steep for 10 minutes.

Frothing Milk

There are multiple ways to froth milk: a milk frother, french press, immersion blender, regular blender, or steamer if you have an espresso machine.

Frothing milk in a small saucepan with an immersion blender.

Step 2: Add milk to a saucepan and heat over low heat until warm. Be careful not to scald the milk. Froth the warm milk until nice and frothy and about double or tripled in size. If using an immersion blender or frother, froth directly into the saucepan. For the French press, add the milk and pump the lid until the milk becomes frothy. For a blender, carefully pour the milk into the blender and blend for about 20-30 seconds, or until the milk has about doubled or tripled in volume.

Step 3: Pour the tea into a cup, straining the loose tea if needed.. Stir in sweetener if desired. Gently pour the frothed milk over top. Optional: sprinkle with cinnamon.

Variations

Pumpkin spice rooibos latte: Add a little bit of pumpkin spice while the tea is steeping. Or Trader Joe’s makes a yummy pumpkin spice version in the fall.

Vanilla rooibos latte: Add about 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Chai latte: To the tea, add a little bit of cinnamon, ginger and crushed cloves.

This looks and sounds yummy! With being 19 weeks pregnant and wanting to drink something in the late afternoon, I don’t want to go crazy on the caffeine. The first trimester I dropped coffee cold turkey because of morning sickness. I think I’m hooked on drinking rooibos tea instead of relying on coffee alone.

  2. Crystal says:

This is really yummy! Next time I’ll make it with almond milk instead of water though.

When you are telling about the tea and making it on your video yours looks ground already but on the list to buy its in leaf form how do you know how much to do if it’s not ground and in leaf form. Thanks
