Even though it is still technically spring, the summer weather has definitely set in. I have been taking the kids to the pool almost daily and spending plenty of time out in the garden.
In the kitchen, I am cooking up things that are quick and easy because we are spending so much time outside of the house. In a few months I will be thinking casseroles, quick breads and pumpkin everything, but for now the kitchen is the last place in the house I want to be.
The garden is loaded with green tomatoes, tiny zucchini, a ton of herbs and the beginnings of pumpkins, radishes and carrots. We just started eating my first batch of sauerkraut from the cabbage we planted in early spring.
I enjoy making infused sparkling water with the mint that is threatening to take over the yard.
A few days ago I cut the first few flowers from my cut garden. With any luck I will be making arrangements all summer with all of the cosmos, zinnias and sunflowers I planted.
The front porch is patriotic with flags, an antique red lantern and a chippy old chair that was destined for the trash.
My peonies were beautiful for such a short while. I wish they bloomed all summer!
I also wish these green blooms would have stayed around a little longer!
You may notice that the light fixture above our dining room table had a little encounter with a three year old and a flute.
It’s super hot outside but we are having so much fun going to the creek, eating bbq and not having to worry about homeschool. The kids are playing hard, being creative and consuming more junk food and tv than I would usually allow. We are enjoying all the best things about summer!
Hope you are enjoying your summer also!
