For glowing skin, create this natural, homemade, facial serum with essential oils. This recipe customizes easily to embrace your own skin type.

Having six kids, including a baby who still nurses through the night, while also homeschooling, and running a business from home … can sometimes be a little stressful.

At the same time, we truly are living our dream life, and I love doing life side-by-side with my favorite people in the world. But with so many plates spinning at one time, my skin can sometimes get pushed to the back of the line and show some neglect.

Combine that with the dry winter months, and this mom needs a little extra help. To work towards a solution, Iโ€™ve really been focusing on perfecting a skin care routine.

My skin tends to be dry, and since Iโ€™m not getting any younger, Iโ€™ve been concentrating on anti-aging methods using natural, healthy oils and essential oils.

Combining this DIY facial serum with my favorite homemade toner, my skin feels much more hydrated and healthier than even just a few weeks ago.

If you are new to essential oils, check out this post about how to use them, and I share the company Iโ€™ve chosen to use for years.

Best Carrier Oils To Use For Serum:

Grapeseed โ€“ Anti-bacterial properties make grapeseed oil a great choice for those who have acne-prone skin. It has also been shown to help moisturize, soften the skin, and increase skinโ€™s elasticity. (source)

Argan โ€“ High in both omega 6 and omega 9 fatty acids, argan oil helps reduce inflammation, so it’s great for acne-prone skin, and it’s very moisturizing. This oil is also high in antioxidants and vitamins E and A. (source)

Jojoba โ€“ Jojoba oil is amazing for your skin. It is thought to mimic the natural oils in human skin, called sebum. These natural oils maintain moisture in the skin and protect it from infection. Jojoba may also help the skin absorb other ingredients more effectively. (source)

Sweet almond โ€“ Containing omega 3s and vitamins A and E, sweet almond has been shown to help reduce under-eye circles and decrease puffiness, improve skin tone, and it’s fantastic for dry skin. (source)

Avocado โ€“ While it’s amazing for dry skin, avocado oil is also very moisturizing and has anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties. (source)

Hemp โ€“ Hemp is great for most skin types and is very moisturizing without clogging pores. Hemp also has anti-inflammatory properties and may help psoriasis. (source)

Rose hip – Rose hip oil is the cold pressed oil from wild rose seeds. It is high in vitamins A and C, which may help reduce the signs of aging and help collagen production. It is moisturizing, while also helping calm the skin, and it may even help acne-prone skin. (source)

Do I need both serum and moisturizer?

Some people can get away with just using a serum, while others need both to achieve proper hydration and moisturized skin.

So happy to find recipes that are natural and healthy. With aging my skin
is quite dry. I am a loyal believer in Frankincense Tea Tree, and Rosymary oils. Try them with your natural
    creams . Thankyou.

I want to make a face serum for my 13 year old daughter. She tends to break out during that time of the month. Can you please advise what you think would work best for her?

    Lisa,
I love the idea of making my own face serum. Your recipe looks amazing, but before I invest so much money in the ingredients you suggest, I have one question. I noticed your original post on this was January 2021 so it seems like you should have some good “experience” with your product. How do you still like it 3 years later? Have you abandoned your other (store bought) face serum / products and only use your homemade recipes? Thanks so much. Your blog is an inspiration to me in a lot of ways.

    1. Lisa Bass says:

      I still like it!

Where did you get the bottles that you use? For your toner and your serum?! Thanks!!!!

This serum sounds awesome and I would like to try and make some.
My problem is that I am having trouble finding the yarrow/pom oil.
I can find them separate but not together. Would it work the same if I put 5 drops of each in.
Do you get all of your oils from Doterra?
I do love your site and wish I had known about it a lot sooner, but it is never too late to change things. Keep up the excellent work and the Lord will bless.

    1. Lisa Bass says:

That would work if you put them in separately. I get the yarrow/pom mixture from doTERRA.

Great sharing, handmade essential oils are great, but I don’t have time to do it myself, but I have been using Neutriherbs essential oil products, which use natural formula and environmentally friendly materials, no irritation, and nourish the skin very well, Perfect for someone like me who doesn’t have much time.
