How to Make a Lavender Wreath DIY Farmhouse Decor

A few weeks ago I shared a picture of this lavender wreath on my Instagram. I just threw it together super quickly because I wanted to get a picture of my new wreath hanger. Of course, I had a ton of people asking me if I planned to make a video tutorial for my Youtube channel.

I should have known better than to make something without my camera rolling!

So, in an effort to get a tutorial out this week, I took the wreath apart and remade it…this time with the video footage.

It is such a simple process and takes less than 30 minutes total. I didn’t mind remaking it!

Also, the whole project comes in at under $20. That is, if you can find the grapevine wreath super cheap like I did. Either way, its easily less than $30.

Since the lavender is faux, it will last for many years.

So many wreaths

I have been into making wreaths for many years now. I love the warmth they add to our farmhouse front door.

I used to make the burlap ones, but these days I don’t like all that frill. I just want something simple and natural. Boxwood, lavender, forsythia and eucalyptus are among my favorites.

Here are a few other wreath tutorials I have on the blog:

Sometimes I use fresh greenery that just lasts for the season, but this time I used faux lavender. I love that I can keep this one and get it back out next summer.

I’ve been 100% a neutrals girl for the last couple years, but lately I am loving color. I like the way purple stands out against our raw wood front door.

How to Make a Lavender Wreath

  1. Gather all the supplies, floral wire, faux lavender and an 18″ grapevine wreath. (You can also, of course, make a smaller version. It would be pretty to hang a couple of 8″ wreaths in a kitchen window above the sink, or over the doors of an antique cabinet or hutch.)
  2. Cut the faux lavender sprigs off of the branch. The lavender I bought came in branches, so I cut the individual sprigs off with scissors. Its a little tricky because the stems have wire in them, but if you just twist them several times they will come loose.
  3. Start attaching the lavender to the grapevine wreath. Wrap the wire stems around the branches of the grapevine wreath. Make sure all sprigs go in the same direction. Wrap floral wire around the lavender to make them more secure and keep them from looking to messy.
  4. Continue around the wreath until all the spaces look filled in and even.

To make the ticking stripe bow

  1. Cut a piece of fabric 8.5″ wide by 18″ long.
  2. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, with right sides together. Sew a 1/4″ seam down the long edge.
  3. Turn the tube of fabric right side out.
  4. Press the fabric flat with the seam in the back.
  5. Fold the tube in half and sew the two ends together with a 1/2″ seam.
  6. Flip it right side out and press flat.
  7. To make the cinch in the middle, cut out strip of fabric 3″ wide by 6″ long.
  8. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, with right sides together. Sew a 1/4″ seam down the long edge.
  9. Turn it right side out with a large safety pin.
  10. Press the fabric flat with the seam in the back.
  11. Cinch the bow in the middle and wrap the small cinching piece around the middle.
  12. Sew the two ends of the cinching piece together, in the back of the bow.

Attach the ticking stripe bow to the lavender wreath

  1. Slip a piece of floral wire through the cinching piece on the back of the bow.
  2. Wrap the wire around the back of the grapevine wreath.

Hang the wreath and enjoy!

Wreaths for every season

Don’t you just feel like making wreaths for every season?! They are so simple to make and the process is basically the same every time. Take something pretty, like faux flowers or something fresh, and attach it to a wreath form with floral wire.

You could get creative and add a wooden monogram, or mix it up and use several different florals.

They also make great gifts for weddings and house warming parties!
