Culinary Grade Lavender – I used lavender I picked from a local farm. You can also find this in the grocery store or this organic dried lavender from Amazon works, too. Culinary lavender typically comes from Lavandula angustifolia plants, also known as “true” or English lavender.
Water – Filtered water if possible.
Honey – I love to use local honey, but any kind of raw honey will do. You can also experiment with using other types of sugar, such as organic cane sugar or maple syrup.
Recipe Modifications and Variations
This homemade lavender simple syrup is perfect all on its own, but there are also so many ways you can make it your own.
- Add some homemade vanilla extract or almond extract.
- Steep the lavender with additional food-grade dried herbs and flower petals, such as mint, thyme, or rose.
- Squeeze in a little fresh orange or lemon juice for a beautiful citrusy twist.
How to Make Lavender Syrup
Step 1: Combine the water, honey, and lavender in a small saucepan or pot.
Step 2: Bring to a very gentle simmer, and then turn off the heat. Allow the lavender to steep for 15 minutes.
Step 3: Pour the liquid through a fine mesh strainer to remove the lavender.
Step 4: Store in an airtight jar or bottle in the fridge. Enjoy!

- Be careful to not exceed 15 minutes for steeping the lavender. Otherwise, the lavender can become bitter. If you prefer a stronger lavender taste, you can always add more lavender blossoms.ย
