Today I want to share with you 10 homemade Christmas gift ideas for friends and family that they will absolutely adore. These simple projects are easy to create, and will make anyone feel loved.
I just love to add a personal touch to Christmas time gift-giving by making some handmade gifts.
Some people in your life, like parents and grandparents, or aunts and uncles, pretty much have everything they need, or buy whatever they need at the time they need it. These are the people who are impossible to shop for. What could you possibly get them?
Giving something handmade is a great way to share something really special that they can keep forever.
One way that I am able give handmade items is with my embroidery machine, so I can make personalized gifts.
The ones I’m going to share with you today don’t really take any special equipment. There are a few sewing ideas, but you can get by with using just a basic inexpensive sewing machine to make some of these gifts. Whatever you choose, you’ll create a gift that everyone on your list will love.

10 Homemade Christmas Gift Ideas
Homemade Soap
Now I’m not talking about creating a lye-based soap that requires extra tools. You can easily use a handmade melt-and-pour goat milk soap base, and make some handmade soap that looks really pretty.
You can even customize them with special soap molds or stamps. The real beauty is that you can package it really beautifully to make a special gift.
You don’t need much to make melt-and-pour soap; just the ingredients you can easily pick up from a local craft store, and a soap mold. You can purchase a basic soap mold, a more fun or elaborate one, or even use a wooden box lined with parchment paper.
Cinnamon Oat Soap:
1 lb goat milk soap base
10 drops cassia or cinnamon essential oil, or 1/2 tsp dried cinnamon.
2 Tbsp quick oats
Directions: In the microwave or over a double boiler, melt the soap base and then add in the remaining ingredients. Now, if you are using oatmeal, it is a good idea to allow the soap base to cool just a touch before adding the oatmeal, so it doesn’t just sink to the bottom.
After you’ve combined all the ingredients, pour the mixture into a mold.
Spritz it with a little bit of rubbing alcohol. This just keeps bubbles from forming. You can totally do without this step and it will turn out fine. Itโs just the proper way of doing it.
Lavender Honey Soap
1 lb goat milk soap base
10 drops lavender essential oil
1 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp dried lavender
Directions: In the microwave or over a double boiler, melt the soap base and then add in the remaining ingredients and mix well.
Pour into a mold.
Spritz it with a little bit of rubbing alcohol. Again, you can totally do without this step and it will turn out fine. Itโs just the proper way of doing it.
Coffee Soap
1 lb goat milk soap base
2 tsp coffee grounds
Directions: In the microwave or over a double boiler, melt the soap base, and then add in the coffee and mix well.
Pour into a mold.
Spritz it with a little bit of rubbing alcohol. Still optional.
This would be really fun to package up with a coffee mug or some coffee to make a coffee gift basket. Wrap it up with some brown paper, a little twine, some twigs, greens, or dried lavender. Label it with a pretty little label you make on canva.com.
Homemade Bath Bombs
My sister Laura over at Our Oily House has a great tutorial on how to make these homemade bath bombs. It’s a really simple process, and you can customize it with essential oils and/or add color.
It would be great to pair these with the homemade soap idea, and a few other ideas from this list would make a lovely gift basket. You can also make these in large quantities and get everyone on your list knocked out.
I love doing these things for the people who already have everything and you just don’t know what to get them.
Linen And Ruffle Throw Blanket
This linen and ruffle throw blanket is a really popular project on my site. So many of you have tagged me on Instagram showing me you made this. I love this project because itโs simple, cozy, and really pretty.
Now, some people have brought up the cost of buying linen for the blanket. You can totally use a cheap linen blend from Walmart, Fabric.com, and even Amazon. Many places offer discounts, so you can make this on the cheap.
This is an impressive gift that people really enjoy because you’ve made it for them. I still have two linen blankets I made from a few years ago that are super well-loved; we use them all the time. Truly, this is a beginner’s project. I encourage you to give it a try!
Beeswax Candles:
Go antique shopping and find beautiful vessels like teacups, mason jars, crocks, or anything else you can find. Then, use this tutorial to create the wax and pour it into your pretty vessel. Such a fun gift! I especially love this Cocoa Butter Beeswax Candle in a Vintage Crock.
You can also create tapered candles by melting the beeswax wax in a long, vertical container and dipping long pieces of wick into the wax over and over again, allowing it to harden between dips.
Body Butter
I’ve shared multiple recipes for body butter here, like this Gingerbread Whipped Body Butter Recipe, and also my favorite DIY Whipped Body Butter. It’s a simple concept that you can customize in any way by adding essential oils. Place it in a pretty jar and tie ribbon, or dried herbs around it. You can find a label here.
DIY Christmas Ornaments
There are so many ways to create DIY ornaments.
Make picture ornaments using family pictures and small frames. Add some twine to hang them.

Linen Apron
There are a few tutorials on the blog to share my favorite aprons. You just need a simple sewing machine; then, follow my sewing basics tutorials to make this simple project. These would make great hostess gifts or a present for anyone who likes to cook.
I love making them out of linen, but they are also great with quilter’s cotton or duck fabric.

Photo Calendar
You can easily make these on Shutterfly, Snapfish, or Mpix. Every year, we make one of these for my grandma. Actually, my sister Laura does it. She will try to get everyone that has a birthday that month together for the main picture, and puts photos of each person on their birthday.
It’s such a neat gift for our grandma, and she loves seeing everyone in her family. You can also make photo mugs!
Homemade Lip Balm
Make these as gifts, or even gift toppers. When you make homemade lip balm, the recipe makes a lot, so you can give them out to a lot of people. Plus, since it is winter time, everyone’s lips seem to get chapped, so it is perfect timing for this useful gift.
Simple Pillow Cover
These simple pillow covers are easy to make, and you can craft them with little ruffles on the outside, or just sew a basic pillow cover. Itโs something every homeowner can enjoy. Make a special red pillow for Christmas, make one from an old sweater, or a ticking stripe pillow cover. There are so many varieties, and anyone on your list will love it.
There you have it!
I hope you enjoyed 10 homemade Christmas gift ideas that anyone on your list will enjoy.

Hello Lisa,
Love these handmade gift ideas! Where do you buy your goat milk soap base?
Thank you!
Hi Lisa! For the soap recipes — they change from 1 lb to 1 tbsp. Which proportion is right? Thank you!
These are some really great homemade gift ideas! I can’t wait to try out the aprons especially this year. I agree homemade gifts are so special when you can make the time to do them. This is the first year in some time that I was able to really do primarily homemade gifts in a long long time. It has been really fun to take some time with the kids and work on them together and I’m sure taking a break from having to do math doesn’t hurt haha. I love that they are learning the joy of making and giving homemade gifts and also learning real life skills of sewing and just being creative. Been listening to history and audio books while we work. It’s been great and a wonderful way to make getting those homemade gifts done as a homeschooling mama.
Where do you get a goat milk soap base? Thanks!
I love these ideas! Thanks. Do you have a link for your goat milk soap base?
